How Living Map improved shopper experience at the Trafford Centre
Problem
Navigating the 2.2 million-square-foot Trafford Centre with over 200 shops and attractions can be difficult, leading to reduced shopping time and increased stress and overwhelm for some visitors.
Goal
This super-regional shopping and leisure destination sought a digital mapping solution to provide clear, detailed information on retailers, car parks, entrances, and services to its visitors. Additionally, the solution needed to offer data on footfall and guest preferences to help management better accommodate guests. The overarching goal was to improve navigation, accessibility, and overall guest experience.
Approach
A dynamic digital map accessible via 10 interactive kiosks in high-traffic areas throughout the centre, and on-the-go via mobile, QR codes, and the website. Visitors can quickly find their points-of-interest, choose ‘stair-free’ routes, and receive real-time updates, reducing time spent getting lost and enhancing their overall shopping experience.
Living Map Solution:
“As a super-regional shopping and leisure destination, we wanted to improve the wayfinding experience for our visitors, so we partnered with Living Map to roll out 10 digital wayfinding screens in high-traffic areas. The upgrade allows us to quickly implement changes, enhance guest experience, and use data insights to understand customer preferences.
Living Map have delivered the product to a high standard, we love the fact that the product is continuously developing and evolving which enables us to offer our customers an innovative mall map with new features.”

Data-Driven Insights
The digital map collects data on shopper preferences and foot traffic, offering valuable insights for better store placement, layout, and resource allocation, helping the centre optimise operations and enhance the customer experience.
Inclusivity and Accessibility
Designed with accessibility in mind, the digital map provides clear, stair-free routes, elevator locations, restrooms, and more, ensuring a stress-free shopping experience for all visitors, regardless of mobility needs.
Reduced Carbon Footprint
Replacing paper maps with a digital solution cuts down on waste and carbon emissions. The map can be updated in real-time, eliminating the need for constant reprints and supporting sustainability while reducing printing costs.
